Collecting Fossils Home Lebanese Fossils
A fine example of the Order Perciformes, Family Serranidae, or Sea Basses. This one is well-centered on its Sublithographic limestone matrix, with the dramatic dorsal and ventral fins in a fine state of preservation. The gaping mouth shows this to have been a formidable predator of its time. The genus died out during the Upper Cretaceous, leaving no descendants. Fish is 8.2 cm long and is from Hajoula, Lebanon. |
